How much should you really earn in UAE/Saudi/Qatar? A 2026 reality check

A senior software engineer in Bangalore was offered 12,000 AED to relocate to Dubai. He took it, packed up his family, and three months later realised he was earning 25 percent below market for his skill set. He could have negotiated 16,000 to 18,000 AED with the right preparation. The Gulf salary market is opaque, fast-moving, and full of misinformation. Let us cut through it with honest 2026 ranges across the three biggest markets, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

A word on how to read these numbers.

All ranges below are monthly, all-inclusive, in local currency, for full-time roles in major cities. Junior means 0 to 3 years of experience, mid-level 3 to 8, senior 8 to 15. Specialist and management roles sit higher. Salaries in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are similar. Saudi numbers reflect Riyadh and Jeddah primarily. Qatar numbers reflect Doha. Secondary cities often pay 10 to 20 percent less. IT and software engineering.

UAE, junior 8,000 to 14,000 AED, mid-level 15,000 to 25,000 AED, senior 28,000 to 45,000 AED. Saudi, junior 10,000 to 15,000 SAR, mid-level 18,000 to 30,000 SAR, senior 32,000 to 50,000 SAR. AI and machine learning roles command 15 to 30 percent premium. Qatar, junior 12,000 to 18,000 QAR, mid-level 22,000 to 35,000 QAR, senior 38,000 to 55,000 QAR.

Finance and accounting.

UAE, junior accountant 6,000 to 10,000 AED, senior accountant 12,000 to 18,000 AED, financial controller 25,000 to 40,000 AED, CFO 50,000 plus. Big Four audit roles sit slightly above. Saudi, junior accountant 7,000 to 12,000 SAR, senior accountant 14,000 to 22,000 SAR, financial controller 28,000 to 45,000 SAR. Qatar, junior accountant 8,000 to 13,000 QAR, senior accountant 16,000 to 24,000 QAR, financial controller 30,000 to 48,000 QAR.

Engineering, construction and project management.

UAE, site engineer 8,000 to 15,000 AED, senior project engineer 18,000 to 28,000 AED, project manager 30,000 to 50,000 AED, director-level 60,000 plus. Saudi giga-projects pay significantly more for senior project roles, with project directors at NEOM and Red Sea Global hitting 60,000 to 90,000 SAR. Qatar construction has slowed post-World Cup but senior roles still command 30,000 to 55,000 QAR.

Healthcare.

UAE, junior nurse 6,000 to 9,000 AED, experienced nurse 10,000 to 16,000 AED, senior nurse and specialist 18,000 to 25,000 AED. GP doctor 25,000 to 45,000 AED. Consultant doctor 50,000 to 100,000 AED depending on speciality. Saudi, nurse 6,000 to 12,000 SAR, doctor specialist 30,000 to 60,000 SAR, consultant 60,000 to 120,000 SAR. Qatar, nurse 8,000 to 14,000 QAR, doctor specialist 35,000 to 70,000 QAR.

Sales and business development. UAE, junior sales 6,000 to 10,000 AED basic plus commission, mid sales 12,000 to 20,000 AED basic plus commission, senior sales and business development 25,000 to 45,000 AED basic plus commission. Top performers can double the basic with commission. Saudi and Qatar similar ranges in local currency.

Marketing and digital. UAE, junior marketing 7,000 to 12,000 AED, mid marketing 14,000 to 22,000 AED, senior marketing 24,000 to 38,000 AED, marketing director 45,000 plus. Saudi and Qatar 10 to 15 percent variance.

Hospitality. UAE, hotel front office staff 3,500 to 6,000 AED plus accommodation, supervisor 7,000 to 11,000 AED, manager 14,000 to 22,000 AED, GM 30,000 to 60,000 AED. Saudi and Qatar similar.

Admin, HR, and support. UAE, receptionist and admin assistant 4,500 to 8,000 AED, executive secretary 9,000 to 15,000 AED, HR generalist 10,000 to 18,000 AED, HR manager 22,000 to 38,000 AED. Saudi and Qatar within 10 percent variance.

Driver, helper, security and labour roles. UAE, light vehicle driver 1,800 to 3,500 AED plus accommodation, heavy vehicle driver 2,500 to 4,500 AED, security guard 1,800 to 3,000 AED, helper and labourer 1,200 to 2,500 AED, domestic worker 1,500 to 2,500 AED. Saudi standards similar. Qatar slightly higher driver and security rates due to demand.

The critical hidden factors.

Housing allowance can range from 20 to 40 percent of basic salary or be provided as company accommodation. Transport allowance 500 to 1,500 AED monthly is common. Annual return flight ticket for self and family. Medical insurance tier matters massively, basic vs comprehensive can be a 5,000 USD per year difference. Schooling allowance for kids, can be 30,000 to 80,000 AED per year per child for senior roles. End-of-service gratuity adds about a month of basic per year served.

What to do with these numbers. Research where you sit in the range for your role and experience. Aim for the upper middle when negotiating, not the top.

The brutal honest truth. Gulf salaries have grown significantly in the last three years, especially in Saudi due to Vision 2030 demand. If you accepted a role 3 years ago and have not negotiated a raise, you are likely 15 to 30 percent below market. The same salary expectation framing applies whether you are a new hire or asking for a raise.
