Top 10 industries hiring in the GCC right now
7 June 2026·4 min read
If you are job hunting in the Gulf right now, knowing which sectors are hot and which are flat saves you weeks of wasted applications. The region is in the middle of one of the biggest economic transformations in its history. Saudi Vision 2030, UAE Centennial 2071, Qatar's post-World Cup pivot, Kuwait Vision 2035, all are driving massive hiring shifts. Here are the ten sectors leading the demand right now and what they mean for you as a candidate.
Construction and giga-projects.
The Saudi giga-projects alone, NEOM, Red Sea Global, Qiddiya, Diriyah Gate, ROSHN, are hiring tens of thousands of engineers, project managers, site supervisors, safety officers, and skilled trades. Add UAE's Dubai Urban Tech District, Etihad Rail, and Abu Dhabi's continued development, plus Qatar's Lusail expansion and Kuwait's new airport. Civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers with 5 to 15 years of experience are in highest demand. Saudi pays the best premiums right now for senior project roles.
Healthcare.
The Gulf is investing heavily in healthcare infrastructure. New hospitals in Riyadh, Jeddah, and the secondary cities. Major expansion of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, NMC, Aster, Mediclinic, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. Nursing roles for DHA, HAAD, MOH, SCFHS, DHCC remain in steady high demand, especially from the Philippines, India, and Egypt. Doctors with GCC certifications, allied health professionals, pharmacists, lab technicians, all are hiring. Saudi has the largest volume but also the strictest licensing.
IT and tech.
Dubai Internet City, Riyadh's KAFD tech corridor, Doha Tech Hub, and the rapid digital transformation of every government and bank are driving huge demand. Software engineers, data scientists, AI and machine learning specialists, cloud architects (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), cybersecurity professionals, and product managers. Saudi and UAE are leading. Salaries for senior tech talent have jumped 20 to 30 percent in the last two years — our UAE salary guide tracks the latest ranges.
AI and emerging tech. Saudi's investment in AI through SDAIA, Aramco's digital transformation, UAE's G42 group, ADQ tech investments, all are recruiting AI engineers, prompt engineers, computer vision specialists, NLP engineers, and AI ethics professionals at premium salaries. If you have hands-on AI experience, this is one of the best times to be in the Gulf — and you do not need Arabic to work in Saudi for most of these roles.
Financial services.
DIFC and ADGM in the UAE, KAFD and the Saudi banking sector, Qatar Financial Centre, all are expanding. Investment banking, asset management, fintech, Islamic banking, compliance, risk, and wealth management roles are growing. The big international banks, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Citi, HSBC, Standard Chartered, are all expanding their Gulf headcount. Saudi specifically has seen explosive growth as global firms set up regional headquarters under the RHQ program.
Hospitality and tourism.
Saudi opening up to global tourism, Dubai continuing to break visitor records, Qatar's post-World Cup tourism push, all are driving hospitality hiring. Hotel chains like Marriott, Accor, IHG, Hilton, Four Seasons are opening dozens of new properties across Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla, Diriyah, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah. Front-office, F&B, housekeeping, sales and marketing, revenue management, and senior leadership all in demand. Filipino, Indian, Egyptian, and African talent particularly sought.
Retail and e-commerce. Major groups like Apparel Group, Landmark, Chalhoub, Al-Futtaim, Lulu, Carrefour, Cenomi, Noon, Amazon MENA, Talabat are hiring across store operations, e-commerce, supply chain, marketing, and tech. Saudi retail has expanded fast in second-tier cities like Khobar, Madinah, Abha. The Cenomi retail group alone hires thousands annually. Entry-level roles plentiful, mid-management roles growing fast.
Logistics and supply chain. DP World, Maersk, Aramex, DHL, FedEx, Almajdouie, Bahri, and the e-commerce-driven last-mile logistics players are hiring rapidly. Dubai's Jebel Ali, Saudi's Bahri, Qatar's Hamad Port, all are expanding. Warehouse supervisors, fleet managers, customs specialists, supply chain analysts, and logistics tech professionals are in steady demand across all six GCC states.
Energy and renewables. Aramco continues to be the largest single employer in the region. ADNOC and its subsidiaries hire steadily. The new push into renewables, with ACWA Power, Masdar, Saudi Green Initiative, UAE's clean energy push, is creating roles in solar, hydrogen, energy storage, and grid management. Petroleum engineers, mechanical engineers, project managers, and renewables specialists all in demand.
Education.
The sheer volume of expat families in the Gulf drives massive demand for schools and universities. KHDA-regulated schools in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi, the new Saudi private schools sector, all hiring teachers across primary, secondary, and university level. Especially in demand, qualified teachers with British or American curriculum experience, STEM specialists, special education professionals. Salaries are stable rather than booming, but housing and tuition benefits make total packages attractive.
A few honourable mentions. The takeaway. Pick the sector with the most momentum that matches your skills. A mid-skill engineer should be looking at Saudi giga-projects. A nurse should be looking at hospital openings in Riyadh and Jeddah. A finance professional should be looking at DIFC, ADGM, or KAFD. A tech talent should be looking at AI roles across G42, SDAIA, and Aramco's digital arm. Aligning with momentum doubles your hit rate.
